3 steps to escape from the mental storm

The mental storm can strike us when many different negative ideas arise at the same time. It is so strong that it seems to inhibit and paralyze us completely. It is as if we suddenly cannot see anything in front of us. We feel completely surrounded by pessimistic, depressing, irritated and depressing thoughts at the same time.

A mental storm sometimes happens after a very difficult experience, such as losing your job, a breakup or some other form of disappointment. On other occasions it occurs after we have tried to endure negative situations for a long time. We do not feel comfortable with how our lives are going, and there comes a moment when we can no longer cope with it and hell breaks loose.

It is a state in which pessimism takes hold of us. We feel that we do not have the strength to continue. We just give up everything and feel rooted in the place. 1. Be aware of the mental storm and stay calm

Think of an actual meteorological storm. When it comes, looking for refuge is the first thing we do. There is no other way to face such a phenomenon. When we find a safe place, we can often observe the storm safely. We are surrounded by the storm, but we can observe it from the outside.

The same must be done with a mental storm. The first thing we must do is find a safe place in ourselves: a state of calm. To achieve this, it is best to breathe deeply for about 15 minutes. If possible, take a short walk, making sure you breathe slowly as you walk.

The next step is to notice everything that is happening. What are all the ideas and thoughts that invade your mind during the mental storm? Write them down. Make a list, but do not think about them. Just push them down. For now, there is nothing else you need to do.

2. Examine the options you have

Once you have calmed down, start looking for the sun shining behind the clouds. You have the list in front of you, but do not think about getting out of the mental storm yet. Just observe and see if there is any way you can get out of your current condition.

In other words, you need to look for a way to improve your current situation. The question you have to ask yourself is: what can I do to make all this better? Concentrate on it alone. Here and now. Do not try to find short-term and long-term solutions.

What you need at this point is not to solve all your problems, but to find a way out of the mental storm. What do you need? What does your heart long for? A hug? A song that motivates you? Some training? Eat something you love? Whatever you really want in that moment is valid!

3. Take action

Once you have discovered what will really comfort you at the exact time, do not wait any longer. Just go for it. Do what you have to do and do it quickly. If you hesitate, you will only feel worse and worse. If you let time go by, it will be harder to escape from the storm. Just act on your instincts!

What happens during a mental storm is a small breakdown in our thoughts and feelings. We stop seeing things as they really are, and see a distorted picture instead. Everything looks much more serious more difficult and when we are in the storm. But the world is not really like that. We perceive it that way because we live in a storm that has taken away our hope and flooded us with fear.

Listen to what your inner voice is telling you. Every storm has an end, and you will be able to see things completely differently afterwards.
