You were born to be a winner! You were born to succeed! That’s what we all learned when we were growing up. Since we were children, we learned that losing is something negative. That’s why we feel bad when we lose.

It is easy to associate mistakes with being less important. When we lose, we feel we are missing something. We even associate mistakes with emotions such as sadness, shame or anger. It always has a bad connotation in our mind. So what’s good about losing?

If we only see the bad side of losing, it will obviously be difficult to get something good out of it. But even though it sounds strange, the word “to lose” always comes with the opposite: “win”. Every time we lose, we actually become a winner at something else. Let’s dive a little deeper into this.

Yin and Yang: To be a winner, you have to lose

You have probably seen the yin and yang symbol a lot. It has a very interesting connotation. The Yin and Yang theory is an important element of Taoism. It refers to the duality that characterizes everything that exists in the universe.

This philosophy says that nothing is completely pure and permanent because everything exists as part of a duality. For example, we can say that summer is the opposite of winter, but they cannot exist without the other. Sometimes it is a cold day in summer and a hot day in winter. Both seasons coexist.

With this, we realize that nothing is entirely good or bad. This means that when we lose, we learn something about ourselves: What we need to change to succeed next time. Therefore, it is duality even in failure.

What do we get when we lose?

If you stop reflecting on why you can not always be a winner, you will learn something very valuable. Losing leads to change and transformation. So, from this point of view, it is losing to win. And what do we get out of it? Knowledge.

Consequently, we will not face similar situations in the same way as before. And we will also be more skilled when it comes to having more flexible thoughts and introducing new strategies that bring us closer to our goal.

But this does not mean that we do not care about winning or losing. Instead, even if we lose, we should strive to rise and continue. Try to turn the situation around and take it as an opportunity to assess what happened so you can come up with other strategies.

The best thing we can do, however, is to actively decide to change our perception of losing. It’s not impossible. It’s about discovering what each experience, good or bad, taught us.
