We Can Not Change Our Options, But We Can Change Our Attitude

We cannot change our opportunities, but we can change our attitude

They say that some opportunities come once in a lifetime, but how do we know which ones are worth taking? We can not take every opportunity that arises.

Many work hard for stability. They are looking for a stable job and a reliable car. But they are still focusing on what they are missing. They are eternally dissatisfied, as if they could have had more.

They face the eternal dilemma of choosing to fight for the life they want or stick to the safe and stable. It is the constant moaning that “this is not what I dreamed of”. They can start each day easily on foot, but frustration takes over at the end of the day.

The philosopher Jose Ortega y Gasset warned us in his book, The Rebellion of the Masses , about the dangers of specialization. Women and men are highly qualified in a particular area, but can not see the big picture or how it fits into the world.

It happens to everyone. How many times have we felt paralyzed by too many opportunities, paralyzed by the fear of giving up the comfort of something that could only be better?

Sometimes we just have to seize the only opportunity we have ahead of us and ignore our fears. And sometimes when you have no more options, the best option becomes clear: to live life as it comes.

The difference between acceptance and resignation

If we want a better attitude, we must first ask ourselves an important question: What is the difference between acceptance and resignation? They may seem similar at first, but they are as different as oil and water.

Acceptance is the first step to change. It has to do with putting the marker where we are actually on the map, whether we like it or not.

Acceptance is also the first step towards adaptation when you do not have the opportunity to change the situation. In this sense, it has to do with acknowledging our past.

For example, for someone who lost a leg in an accident, acceptance is a big step toward adjustment and the changes they need to make in life. It also represents a big step when it comes to accepting that your past is a part of you.

Resignation, on the other hand, involves frustration and hopelessness. This frustration usually results in an inability to move. We feel that there is no way to change life, so we have to live with it – even if we hate it.

And then we can find a thousand opportunities to get out of a bad situation, but none of them seem perfect. We resign ourselves to our destiny. We will almost suffer, just so we can complain.

Perhaps when we reach the limit of our suffering, we accept one of the possible alternatives, even if it is not ideal. Of course, for the person who has lost the leg, his ideal alternative would be to get it back. Unfortunately, this is not an option.

When all the ideal opportunities are exhausted, the best option becomes clear: a change of attitude. We must reconsider our options, knowing that no one is perfect. If an alternative takes away our pain, it is worth considering, even if it does not work perfectly.

If we are exhausted and have no motivation, we see no possible paths to follow. Change takes effort, and we need daily motivation to make it possible.

Our efforts usually have a reward, but when we are dealing with the unknown, it may not be enough to motivate us.

Maybe we need to lower our expectations a bit. Create a simpler, more honest plan that will make the road easier. Reality may not meet the expectations our perceptions created for it, but that does not mean that it will not be good.

Do not focus on what does not exist

I know countless people who went an unexpected way and who are happy. They enjoy their situation, they accept temporary changes, and they ignore the negative things people say. And anyway, these comments often come from people who just like to judge others.

These brave people have made sweet lemonade from the lemons life gave them. They take care of themselves. They take the reins of life and enjoy the small pleasures it offers.

It is a very fine line that separates the pursuit of a better life and to forever criticize the life you have. But even though it is nice, it is also important.

There are no jobs, homes or relationships that are not worth it in themselves. It is our attitudes and actions that make them so. In our quest for perfection, we see everything we have as less. We get bitter.

Fortunately, some of us have learned the importance of taking an extra minute to make ourselves a good cup of coffee in the morning. Living in the present while building a future.

They did not find perfect opportunities, so they made the best of the opportunities they had and adopted a more positive attitude. They chose the attitude to live – not to survive.
