The family atmosphere and the upbringing of children

Raising children is no easy task. The little ones are people in development who learn little by little with the help of their parents. They learn to regulate their emotions and control their behavior. Parents can start this process without knowing how to do it, tired or stressed due to other factors. This can cause them to lose patience when children have tantrums or misbehave. In this connection, the family atmosphere is a great influence on a child’s upbringing.

All of this affects the  family atmosphere, which is fundamental to the child’s upbringing. Despite knowing about the effects of the family atmosphere, people tend to be more aware of other factors. Some of these other factors are the way parents must set boundaries or get their children to meet certain social norms. In this article, we discuss a topic that has not been researched much: the influence that the family atmosphere has on a child’s upbringing.

What is the family atmosphere?

To gain a better understanding of how the family atmosphere affects upbringing, we must first identify what we mean by “family atmosphere”. It is well-being or unrest that comes from the interaction between the different family members.

These interactions vary. They range from punishments, accusations or limits to help, judgments or reinforcements. It’s social behavior. As it is easy to imagine  , these behaviors can have a significant effect on other family members.

Children have an influence on the parents and the parents also have an influence on their children. When it comes to parenting  , the family atmosphere can affect their self-esteem, their commitments, their motivation, their academic performance and their habits or routines.

How to identify a negative family atmosphere?

That said, the impact can be positive or negative. A negative family atmosphere arises when these interactions are in favor of egocentric, violent, disruptive or intolerant behavior. This disrupts their well-being.

In fact, when this happens, we find low levels of unity between family members and many conflicts. As expected  , it will be a source of stress that carries an emotional weight for both children and parents. Not only that, but it also produces  behavioral problems  for the little ones and becomes a risk factor for everyone’s well-being.

What leads to this type of family atmosphere? Parents have certain habits that this is in favor of. In fact, evidence suggests that being  overly authoritarian  and using punishment repeatedly, exclusively and disproportionately,  can lead to a negative family atmosphere. Another reason may be the lack of clear rules in the family.

How to identify a positive family atmosphere?

There is a positive atmosphere when parents establish clear rules, use time-outs and other reinforcements more often than punishment. In addition, they try to discuss with the children, they listen to them, they praise them and they support the positive behavior they want the children to adopt as habits.

In this way  , social behavior arises along with interest, respect, assistance, participation and self-confidence. Children have more independence,  self-confidence  and self-confidence and they grow up in a more stable and competent way socially, physically, behaviorally and lovingly.

Family atmosphere

Ultimately  , the family atmosphere is one of the most important variables that can significantly affect growing up, either positively or negatively. Having adequate relationships and family ties is important. In this way, they can assimilate patterns of interaction that will be in favor of their social relationships and trust.
