Some people feel emotionally burnt out due to unnecessary challenges in their lives or an accumulation of difficult experiences. Others feel that way when they enter adulthood because of their traumatic childhood.

A person may become emotionally burnt out and think that it is only because they have an unfulfilled job or that they are in a difficult relationship. While this may be true, it may also be the other way around. Emotional exhaustion can be the cause of their problems.

Being emotionally burnt out means feeling powerless. This happens when you live your life on autopilot without thinking or feeling too much and acting as if everything was imposed on you. You live as if your life does not belong to you and you do not care.

When a person is detached, they can feel lonely. However, a burnt out person can ignore these feelings and not give them too much meaning.

They assume that they cannot change who they are or what is happening around them. Some hide behind their thoughts about how useless love is.

They do everything in their power to convince themselves that they can achieve nothing no matter how hard they try. They also tend to shorten their performance and say things like “why do I set goals if nothing will change?”

The feeling of worthlessness nourishes the emotional fatigue they feel. In their minds, any task is too difficult for them because they do not have the energy to do it. Thus, it seems too far away and difficult to do. An emotionally burnt out person tends to be very passive.

Frequent boredom

It is very difficult for a burnt out person to enjoy the little things. Almost everything seems too boring or monotonous. There is no desire to make plans or start new projects. They just let the circumstances drag them along without fighting back. This can turn into anhedonia.
